HDFC Bank Millennia Credit Card review
A simple, low-cost cashback card for people who shop and order food online on the big Indian apps. It suits monthly online spends up to about ₹20,000; beyond that the caps bite and a card with higher caps will earn more. Skip it if you travel abroad or want lounge access.
Fees
₹1,000 a year + GST. Renewal fee waived if you spend ₹1 lakh or more in the year before the renewal date. Forex markup 3.5%.
Rewards
1 CashPoint = ₹1 when redeemed against the statement (minimum 500 points, at most 3,000 points a month, ₹50 + GST fee per redemption). On SmartBuy flights, hotels or the catalogue a CashPoint is worth only ₹0.30.
- Online shopping: 1% – Online stores outside the 10 partners earn the normal 1% (shared ₹1,000 monthly cap). Buying through SmartBuy or PayZapp also earns only 1%, even at partner merchants.
- Amazon: 5% – 5% on 10 partner merchants (Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Tata CLiQ, Swiggy, Zomato, Uber, BookMyShow, Sony LIV, Cult.fit). The ₹1,000 monthly cap is shared by all 10. EMI purchases don't count.
- Flipkart: 5% – Same 5% bucket and shared ₹1,000 monthly cap as Amazon
- Swiggy & Zomato: 5% – Swiggy and Zomato are both 5% partners, sharing the ₹1,000 monthly cap of the 5% bucket
- Fuel: 0% – No cashback on fuel; 1% surcharge waiver on ₹400–₹5,000 transactions, up to ₹250 a cycle
- Flights & hotels: 1% – 1% on flights and hotels. Uber rides (cab code only) are in the 5% bucket.
- Rent: 0% – No cashback on rent and a 1% fee when paid through apps like CRED
- Education: 1% – Earns 1% only when paid directly on the school or college website or POS. Payments through third-party apps earn nothing.
- UPI with a credit card: 0% – We could not find a RuPay variant, so this card can't be used for UPI payments
- Other in-store: 1% – Every non-partner spend earns 1%, capped at ₹1,000 a month across all of them
- Foreign currency: 1% – Earns the usual 1%, but the 3.5% forex markup wipes it out
- Everything else: 1%
On a typical spending pattern this card gives back about ₹7,560 a year.
What’s good
- 5% back at 10 big apps: Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Swiggy, Zomato, Uber and more
- Flat 1% on almost everything else, paid as CashPoints worth ₹1 each against the bill
- ₹1,000 voucher or a lounge visit every quarter you spend ₹1 lakh
- Fee is easy to get back: spend ₹1 lakh a year and renewal is free
What’s not
- Each cashback bucket is capped at ₹1,000 a month, so heavy spenders hit the ceiling fast
- Statement redemption is capped at 3,000 points a month and costs ₹50 each time
- 3.5% forex markup makes it a poor card abroad
- No cashback on fuel, rent, wallets, EMI or government payments
Lounge access
Domestic: Up to 4 a year: each quarter you spend ₹1 lakh, you can take 1 domestic lounge visit instead of the ₹1,000 voucher. International: None.
