ICICI Bank HPCL Super Saver Credit Card review

Suits someone who fills about ₹5,000 a month at HPCL pumps and wants a cheap card that pays for itself. The tight caps make it a poor main card for anything beyond fuel.

Fees

₹500 a year + GST. Next year's annual fee reversed if you spend ₹1.5 lakh or more in a card year (EMI spends do not count). Forex markup 3.5%.

Rewards

1 ICICI Bank reward point is worth about ₹0.25; fuel cashback is paid in rupees

  • Groceries: 5% – 20 points per ₹100 on groceries, utilities, telecom and department stores, all sharing a cap of 400 points (₹100) a statement, so only about ₹2,000 of spend earns 5%
  • Fuel: 4% – 4% cashback at HPCL pumps and on the HP Pay app, capped at ₹200 a month (₹5,000 of fuel), plus a 1% surcharge waiver. Paying through HP Pay adds 1.5% as Happy Coins in the app
  • Bills: 5% – Shares the 400 points a statement cap with groceries and department stores
  • Everything else: 0.5%

On a typical spending pattern this card gives back about ₹4,830 a year.

What’s good

  • 4% cashback plus a 1% surcharge waiver at HPCL pumps
  • Extra 1.5% back as Happy Coins when paying for fuel through the HP Pay app
  • 5% back on groceries, bills and department stores for the first ₹2,000 or so each month
  • Roadside assistance for one vehicle while the fee is paid
  • Low ₹500 fee, reversed at ₹1.5 lakh of yearly spend

What’s not

  • Fuel cashback stops at ₹200 a month and grocery/bill rewards at ₹100 a statement
  • Other spending earns only about 0.5%
  • Lounge access needs ₹75,000 of spending in a quarter
  • Roadside assistance is not given if your fee was waived through spending

Lounge access

Domestic: 1 a quarter for the primary cardholder, after spending ₹75,000 in the previous calendar quarter. International: None.
