BPCL SBI Card OCTANE review
Worth it if you fill up at BPCL every month and also eat out or buy groceries on the card, since the welcome points pay for the fee in year one. Light drivers or people who use other fuel brands will get little from it.
Fees
₹1,499 a year + GST. Renewal fee reversed if you spent ₹2 lakh or more in the previous card year. Forex markup 3.5%.
Rewards
4 reward points = ₹1 of free fuel at BPCL pumps, or BPCL e-vouchers
- Dining out: 2.5% – 10 points per ₹100 on restaurants; dining, groceries, department stores and movies share a cap of 7,500 points a month
- Groceries: 2.5% – 10 points per ₹100 at grocery and department stores (not Metro Cash & Carry or Walmart); shares the 7,500 points a month cap
- Fuel: 6.25% – 25 points per ₹100 at BPCL pumps only (6.25%), plus a 1% surcharge waiver for 7.25% in total; capped at 2,500 points per statement (about ₹10,000 of fuel). Other fuel brands and UPI fuel payments earn nothing
- Rent: 0%
- Everything else: 0.25%
On a typical spending pattern this card gives back about ₹6,570 a year.
What’s good
- 7.25% total value back on BPCL fuel, lubricants and Bharat Gas bookings
- 2.5% back on dining, groceries, department stores and movies
- Welcome points worth ₹1,500 cover the annual fee
- Points can be used instantly for fuel at BPCL pumps
- 4 free domestic lounge visits a year
What’s not
- Fuel rewards stop at 2,500 points a statement, so only about ₹10,000 of fuel a month earns the full rate
- Everything outside the bonus categories earns just 0.25%
- Only BPCL pumps count; other fuel brands earn nothing
- ₹2 lakh of yearly spend needed to get the fee back
Lounge access
Domestic: 4 a year, at most 1 a quarter. International: None.
